1. How he was chosen to create the doors
Lorenzo Ghiberti, the artist chosen to create the doors, came to this position when in 1401, he won a competition for the first set of bronze doors for the Baptistry of the cathedral in Florence. Although the initial plan was to depict scenes from the Old Testament, specifically the sacrifice of Isaac, but it soon changed to depict scenes from tne New Testament.

The Gates of Paradise took 21 long years to complete, and with the time and energy that was put into this work, the Ghiberti doors had ellaborate decorations in each of the pannels. There is a total of 28 panels, in which 20 consist of scenes from the New Testament and the remaining 8 panels showing the 4 evangelists - Saint Ambrose, Saint Jerome, Saint Gregory, and Saint Augustine. 4. How are they paired?
Well, to put it simply, the Ghiberti Door had two main columns of panels, each with 14 panels. On the left hand side of the door, it was mostly of scenes from the Old Testament, while the right side most included scenes from the New Testament.
